The Ace Hotel Gets Me Every Time

So, there are close to what, 300 hotels in New York, or something like that. And this is just about one of them. The Ace Hotel at 29th and Broadway. While the hotel lobby is more like a club than a lobby (I think that’s a NY thing, right?), the rest of the hotel has a few charming quirks. Here’s a look.

The minibar was in that “rations” box underneath the TV. Pretty cool.

And while I would recommend getting an inward-facing room due to noise, at least the street side had a nice view, huh? If you’re going street side, I’d take earplugs. #protip

Throughout the hotel there were little mantras painted on the wall that would make you smile, like this one, in the bathroom.

NYwork2The retro office touches throughout the room were charming as well, don’t you think?

And I somehow even willed myself to the hotel gym. It was small, but, again, had it’s touches that brought a smile to my face. I think that sign on the left could be used in many households throughout the nation.
NYwork5So, why was I in New York? For work. We were filming some short online videos that launched just a couple weeks ago. Make sure to check them all out on Central Perch. But for now, here’s the latest, just launched today.

It’s worth noting that all opinions expressed here are my own, not that of my company, or my client, or the hotel or the puppet master. You know. Oh. I also went to New York to play too. Check out the full story over here.

Fishs Eddy Gets Me Every Time

A few weeks ago, when I was in New York for work, I had a free evening to spend some time with my main man JJL. We ate cheese, drank wine and walked around the sweltering city, ducking into a few places to get a reprieve from the heat. One of the places we got to check out was Fishs Eddy, near Union Square. JJL had gifted me a few mugs from there a while back, so I was excited to check it out in real life.

As the proud owner of a new kitchen, you could say I was over-the-moon to be looking at so much dining and kitchen goodness. That said, I restrained myself as we are only now opening our wedding dishes. (exciting, right?) Anyhow, if I had been looking to throw a little kitsch into the kitchen, I might have picked up any of the pieces from this “Teddy & Bear” collection.

I mean, look at that close-up. “High Five.” It was almost calling my name. I love it.

And, if you were not into those mermaid bottle openers in the first photo, how about these owl bottle openers? Just too cool for school.  But, mermaids, Teddy, high fives and owls aside, my favorite thing in the entire store was one kitchen towel.

This towel is perfect (purrfect?) for any cat lover. I for one think it’s a perfect representation of my favorite lady, Louise, or any cat for that matter. It sums up how much she obeys us to the Tea Towel. Get it? Full of ’em today.

Check out Fishs Eddy online or in person if you’re ever in the city. They’ve got tons of great stuff that you might not need today, but you’ll probably find a use for tomorrow.

PS… @JJ, that link was intentional. Update your blog so we all know what you’re up to.

The City Gets Me Every Time

After that recent trip to LA to shoot the commercial, we went to New York City to edit the commercial. We were lucky enough to stay in the meat-packing district, just around the corner from Chelsea Market. And so, the morning we had a late start, I wandered over and found a gluten-free breakfast sandwich from Friedman’s lunch. I took that and an iced coffee and sat on the High Line to enjoy some time outside before the temperature rose to a scorching 90-million, bajillion degrees. Talk about hot town, summer in the city.

NY2Back to our regularly-scheduled programming soon, friends! Burgers, and favorites, and house projects too!
