Having an Epiphanie Gets Me Every Time

by  • September 26, 2012 • Link Love, Shop Love

Do you remember a while back when I went on and on about these great Epiphanie camera bags and how I was lusting after several one. Well, I finally have an Epiphanie of my own. I changed my mind several times and eventually decided on the Slate Lyric. Take a look. (I’m glad that chevron beauty from the video above wasn’t out yet, I would have had even more trouble choosing!)

What do you think? I plan on using my new Lyric to tote my Olympus E-PM1, which has been my main camera squeeze recently, along with an extra lens and some other accessories.

Action photos coming soon, I promise. Me and this bag have got some places to go and pictures to capture.

    * – * – * – * – * – * – * – * – * – *

This post is not sponsored by Ephiphanie, only by my sweet mom who helped make my Epiphanie dreams come true. (thanks mom!) Want your own? Head over to the Epiphanie blog now, they’re giving away a few bags in the next couple weeks.

Weekend Plans Get Me Every Time

    by  • May 11, 2012 • Link Love

The weekend is near, folks. And I’ve got some links for you that I’ve gathered over the past several days. Plus, a few weekend activities, Mother’s Day aside, for those in or around the Boston Area.

First, West Elm is having a pop-up flower shop tomorrow at their Fenway store. Stop by & pick up flowers for mom (or yourself, either way.)

OR, if you’re on the other side of The Charles, check out The Art of Craft in Cambridge. An indoor/outdoor market with free parking!

Or, if you’re trolling the internet, here’s a few too many things to check out:

    • Succulents, at IKEA.
    • Parmesan Cheese Spread, at 101 Cookbooks.
    • Roasted Garlic Pasta Salad, at Budget Bytes.
    • From blog to brand, at Design Love Fest.
    • (Greater) Boston is getting it’s very own Shake Shack, via Beckie over at Cubicle 57.
    • IKEA hack hanging garden, at JILLM. (perfect for us city dwellers and even more reason to hit up IKEA this weekend.)
    • Custom storage ottoman, at Paper N Stitch.

And that’s it. I’ll be back soon with more on Mom’s day among other things. Until then, have the most fabulous weekend, internetland!

And now, just a few mid-week links to get you to your Friday. I’m a little late to the party on these free phone backgrounds, but I can’t help but share them. They’re from Eat, Drink, Chic—one of my favorite sites for all things parties. And, not only can you score the two freebies pictured above, but there’s two more…

So, if dots aren’t your thinr, get this cute banner wallpaper instead.
UPDATE! there’s a third set in the series! featuring stripes! Get on that!

Now that your phone is all spiffy, get ready to simplify dinner time this spring, and summer with 101 Spring Freezer Meals. Found via Pinterest, with a shout out to Obr! This post is stocked with great slow cooker and grilling meals that will have your freezer stocked. (get it?)

And now that dinner is in the freezer, stop by Elise’s inspiring pop up stamp shop. Aren’t these great. They’re so simple and fun. She dreamt it up all by herself then ordered the stamps and set up shop. Even if you don’t need stamps, it a great motivation to get to the project you’ve wanting to get to.

The Ballerina Project Gets Me Every Time

by  • April 19, 2012 • Dancin' Days, Link Love

    | all images via |

Some of you know, and some don’t, that I come from a long line of dancers and dance teachers. A knowledge and love of dance is, has always been and will forever be part of my life. Knowing that, it shouldn’t be hard to figure why The Ballerina Project gets me every time.

While I may not be a professional ballerina myself—more on that soon—I can’t help but be mesmerized by this photo series. Taken in some of my favorite places (New York, Boston, Hawaii), they are absolutely breathtaking.

I could literally post all of the photos here, they’re gorgeous, but then, what would you have to see for yourself? Check out The Ballerina Project, then visit them on Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter to stay up-to-date with all their travels and the latest photos.

And remember, anything is possible from fifth position! (a lil ballet humor, don’t mind if I do.)

Changing it Up Gets Me Every Time

    by  • March 16, 2012 • Inspiration, Link Love

For the past 3 or 4 years, I’ve lived with the above LACK TV stand from IKEA. It was cheap, easy to put together and was a great space saver in the not-so-large-studio apartment I used to reside in. But now that we’ve got two people living in one also-not-so-large apartment, we need something that offers more storage.

First, I looked at how I might hack this bad boy into something a little more substantial. I wasn’t quite digging what I saw. Second, I browsed and browsed IKEA for an inexpensive replacement that might offer more storage and height. But everything just feels the same. And a little too utilitarian for our style.

So, I took to the internet for inspiration, and here’s what I found:

I’m loving the look of these painted dressers. There’s PLENTY of storage for remotes, DVDs and then some. Plus, some have great ideas like removing the first row of drawers, or, my favorite, creating a “faux” drawer to put the cable box and DVD player in.

So, maybe the plan is to scavage the weekend yard sales and start the hunt.

What do you think? Would you change it up with a made-over dresser as your entertainment center?

    Epicenter Gets Me Every Time

by  • March 14, 2012 • Blog Love, Inspiration, Link Love

This is a long overdue post about Epicenter located in Green River, Utah. Where is Green River, Utah you ask? Well, lucky for you, I’ve got an illustration.

This illustration and all the hand-drawn & hand-written goodness comes to me direct from the fine folks at Epicenter. Just this week I received a beautiful piece of snail mail from them and I just had to share it and all the info I could drum up about the great work they are doing in our country. The informational mailer was produced on newsprint and folded into the cutest square piece. (I really can’t get enough of the printed goods.) I’ve receive many beautiful pieces from Epicenter in the past. (Psst… they’ve got graphic design skills that are up for your grabs folks!)

Now, the reason I know so much about the Epicenter is because one of my dearest lifelong friends, Maria, started the organization with a group of her college friends. I’m lucky enough to receive printed materials from the pioneers of Epicenter quite often—holiday cards, pamphlets, postcards and the like. More on that in a moment. First, a word about Epicenter from the Epicenter themselves:

EPICENTER serves as an affordable housing and small business resource center for Green River, Utah, by acting as a Habitat for Humanity Satellite Office, USDA Rural Development Resource Center, Business Expansion and Retention Resource Center,Utah Department of Workforce Services Information Center, Cottonwoods on the Green Apartments Management Office, & creative design studio.

Now, maybe that doesn’t seem like a huge deal to you, but did you see that drawing up there? The FIRST EVER Habitat for Humanity House in Green River. They did that! Let me add some context. The average annual household income in Green River is less than $30,000. Now, the cost of living may be lower than where you live, but this number still leaves about 15% of the town’s small population under the poverty line. Epicenter is making a difference.

If you want to help my friends make a difference in our country, and possibly get some of this great mail like I do, there are a few ways you can get involved. One, as the above shows, is by making the trip to Green River yourself. If you want to be on the Frontier, go to designonthedottedline.com to learn more. Or, if you can’t do that, at least educate yourself about a part of our country you may not know about. And, if you feel so inclined, make a donation, or pick up some Rural gear from Epicenter’s ETSY:

(PS. Thanks, Maria, for all you do for your community! I’m grateful to have passionate friends like you making a difference in our country.)

    RSS Gets Me Every Time

by  • February 29, 2012 • Blog Love, Inspiration, Link Love

It’s finally arrived—the blogroll page of Gets Me Every Time. Now, you haven’t known this, but I’ve been working on it for almost as long as I’ve been blogging, that’s about 2 months for those of you who just joined us. Anyhow. Here’s why it took me so long:

    1. At any given time, I have at least 100 unread items in my RSS feed. Some days, I manage to get it to about 85, but it never seems to go any lower. Granted, I always have something to read.

    2. My RSS feed is not organized! So, I’ve been taking the time to split all my favorite blogs into categories. Some fall into two categories, so I put it where I see it fitting best. (Right now, there’s recipes/cooking, friends & boston bloggers.)

    3. I’m still not finished, and I just kept stalling. But, I decided to put up this version for now. I couldn’t wait. And neither should you.

I’ll be posting more soon. Until then, enjoy the blogroll, folks.

That’s My Pan! Gets Me Every Time

    by  • February 22, 2012 • Link Love

Get ready for a little geeky gushing. Yes. Personalized pans. I have them. I love them. They’re from That’s My Pan! (yes, the exclamation part is part of the company name.)

    source |

I’ve got the brownie pan (9×9) and the lasagna pan, both emblazoned with “From the Kitchen of The Gets Me Every Times.“* I could hardly wait to use them when my mother gifted them to me as an engagement gift. But, since they had my new name, I decided to wait. Hey, a little superstition can go a long way, right?

    source |

Turns out, That’s My Pan! has a whole lot more than pans. Mugs, cutting boards, cooking utensils and more. We’ve got all our kitchen can hold at the moment, but how great are these for taking to work, parties, etc? At least you’ll always get your pan back.

*Obviously, that’s not our real name. And no, my mom doesn’t call us that.

Valentine’s Day Gets Me Every Time

by  • February 14, 2012 • Focus, Inspiration, Link Love

    | source |

Happy Valentine’s Day y’all! Yes, I know, for a few weeks I went on and on about this day of love. Well, here we are and I am so far behind with no catching up in sight. Things just got busy here with work and the big game and birthday and everything, you know. I had started a Valentine’s Day board over on Pinterest, and so if it were up to me, I would have completed some of those projects, like the above homemade scratch-off Valentines from Little Lovely.

    | source |

I would have also made some of these too-cute cupcakes from Bakerella. But, we actually still have some cupcakes left over from the birthday celebration, so maybe I would have just added some new decorations…

    | source |

Lastly, I would have made some of these oh-so-simple snow globes as seen on Dandee. There’s not any snow outside this February, but that’s nothing a little glitter couldn’t fix.

As for us, we’re just celebrating a simple Valentine’s Day, filled with love (and with Louise, of course!) What about you? Are you feeling the love?

    Valentines Get Me Every Time

by  • January 24, 2012 • Link Love, The Hunt

The countdown is on. Valentine’s Day is three weeks from today. Now, before you go asking anyone to Be Yours, get your hearts in a row and all that jazz. Obviously there are tons of resources for great gifts, thoughtful cards and party favors if you’re going all out. One of my personal faves in The Paper Source. It’s right down the street from my place and of course, I can always order online if I can’t make it there during store hours.

    | via |

Since they’ve got SO much great stuff, I decided to put together a little roundup of my top picks.

I can’t get enough of these cards. the Octopus is my #1 this year, but I wouldn’t mind if that Cutie Pie card showed up in my mailbox either. The party straws are great for anytime, but especially Valentine’s Day. The DIY treat bags remind me of candy bags from grade school. And those letterpress notes seem like a nice gesture to leave for your special someone any day of the year—you don’t need a special day to share the love!

More Valentines goodness to come. smooches!
