Jimmy’s Bar & Oven Gets Me Every Time


Saturday night, Mr. Gets Me Every Time and I set off for dinner armed with a Groupon for Jimmy’s Bar and Oven in Brookline’s Washington Square. Though we’ve driven past it numerous times, it’s just never worked out that it was a good time to go. But finally we decided to go and we are certainly glad we did. Here’s the play by play.


We started off with some drinks, specifically this Basil Gimlet. It was right up my alley. Not too sweet and the basil wasn’t too overpowering. Just the way I like my gimlets.


Of course, we had to order an appetizer and we went with the Crispy Calamari. I love calamari and this batch was one of my favorites I’ve had in a while. Just the right amount of peppers cooked to a light, crunchy goodness that wasn’t too greasy at all. Plus, the marinara was delicious.


We took our time ordering our entrees, and it was a good thing. As our neighbors received their entrees, we quickly realized that we needed to get two very different things and share them. The first was this chicken parm. Which, honestly, in the words of the Mr., was, “nothing to write home about.” So, when we go back to Jimmy’s, it will be for this:


The pizza. Like this BBQ chicken masterpiece topped with red onions. The other pizzas we saw paraded through the dining room looked tempting too–sausage, chicken parm, margherita and more. Check out theĀ full menu.
